Cities are comprised of countless objects, old and new. As people have begun consuming more, there has been a rising emphasis on sustainable living and thrifting. However, often, an object might survive the test of time for many other reasons. A sofa could have been passed down through various tenancies, or a book could have been donated by one reader to the next. Do objects have life? If so, when and how does this life begin? When an object is being recycled, does it lose all its identity? Do objects have identities to begin with?
Writing Prompt 1
Find an old object that you own. Write a journal entry on why it is important and how it managed to stay with you for so long. Was it new when you acquired it?
Writing Prompt 2
Write a list of ten objects you must bring with you if you were to move away from the city you live in. What significance do they hold? How many of them were acquired from this city? Do you remember where you got them from?
