The belief in fateful encounters is deeply rooted in many cultures. Fate can stem from different sources: reincarnated lives, destiny, pure chance, or divine intervention. In many East Asian cultures, it is believed that people meet each other because their fates had already been intertwined from another life. Living in big cities and surrounded by people, how many fateful connections do we encounter every day? Are they all meaningful?
Writing Prompt 1
Think of a person you see on a regular basis, but you are not well acquainted with. It could be a bus driver, a security guard, or a cashier. Imagine who you were to each other in a past life and write about it. Did you live in the same city? How did you meet? Were you both human?
Writing Prompt 2
Write a journal entry about why you think you are currently living in the city you are in. What are the forces that brought you to this place at this time? Is it work? School? Relationships? Or something more intangible?
